Reds True Barbecue, Leeds

Following Red’s owners James and Scott’s extensive US research they approached JMDA to realise their dream of creating a unique premises in which to serve authentic American barbecue style food. James and Scott spent considerable time developing the concept with JMDA before any site was even considered. With the acquisition of the Leeds city centre restaurant, their dreams were turned into reality. They required an approx 60 cover communal seating style restaurant, bar area, theatre kitchen (to highlight their imported smokers) and the usual back of house facilities.

JMDA chose a combination of hard finishes and industrial filament type lighting to create an interior with a nod to both US Deep South and Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen district eateries using exposed services & bare brick walls. Booth seating was formed in windows opposite the famous Corn Exchange as a ‘see and be seen’ area and the bar area was given a Bohemian vibe with the incorporation of heavy velvet curtains.

When the restaurant is full and the smokers are smoking, the atmosphere is electric.

The phenomenal success of the restaurant has allowed the client to quickly roll out the concept in several other locations.
