Chaophraya, Newcastle
The Thai Leisure Group briefed JMDA to create a high-end Thai dining experience on the top floor of the latest refurbished lot in Newcastle’s Eldon Square Shopping centre. The site's large curved exterior allows for great views that overlook the city’s iconic Grey’s Monument. As well as the interior, the brief centred on creating a luxurious Thai garden to the external roof terrace.
The final design provides a stunning interior from the outset with a 4m tall hand carved Buddha statue visible upon entry, whilst an open theatre kitchen, comfy booth seating and excellent views of the monument offer a rich and vibrant atmosphere. The Thai style lanterns that adorn the glazing create a strong impact from the exterior & within the interior. The rooftop terrace is a stand out area with two large feature horizontal Buddha statues, a green wall & fully retractable roof, complete with an adjacent feature VIP oasis lounge.
