Thaikhun, Aberdeen

The second site for the Thaikhun concept roll-out. Located within Aberdeen’s highly regarded Union Square shopping centre, the brief was to create the full Thaikhun experience within the established food outlets whilst complying with the many shopping centre management requirements.

The site was given the same authentic back-street Thailand treatment as Manchester with subtly twists in finishes and lighting etc to keep the concept fresh. The centre would not allow ‘external’ seating and so JMDA designed an area immediately inside the demise line with an external feel, incorporating striped canopies, glazed screens and reclaimed bench seating. The whole of one wall is a ‘scrapbook’ of Thai culture incorporating maps, postcards, old TV’s & radios and genuine imported Thai cabinets all set within blackened metal framed shelving against a background of reclaimed painted boarding. The site exceeded all forecast expectations and continues to do so week after week.
