Thaikhun, Manchester

Thai Leisure Group acquired this prestigious site for their first Thaikhun concept roll-out. The 3500sq ft site is housed in two former retail units on The Avenue in the Spinningfields district of Manchester city centre. The client required a theatre kitchen, small bar area and an area dedicated for a take away ‘Grab & Go’ facility together with seating for 120 customers internally & approximately 40 externally.

The first of a new concept for Thai Leisure Group, Thaikhun authentically captures the hustle & bustle street food ambience of Thailand. JMDA have combined authentic imported Thai screens & wildly eclectic bric-a-brac, with industrial lighting, exposed services & reclaimed timbers to replicate the ad-hoc street food stalls & restaurants of Thailand. Furniture is functional yet stylish with distressed finishes. The toilets have to be seen to be believed. The external area boasts a fully retractable roofed dining area supported by rusted steel framework. Old bicycles and reclaimed timber bench seating create an enclosure to The Avenue where customers can sit and watch shoppers do a double take as they take in this small slice of Thailand which appears to have ‘landed’ in the glass and steel canyons of Spinningfields.
