The Wavendon Arms, Milton Keynes

Transformed from a country pub experience to a premium restaurant and bar, the Wavendon Arms has been chosen by owners Mitchells & Butlers to become a high energy offer for its vibrant clientele. Part of the latest Mandarin concept for client Mitchells & Butlers, The Wavendon Arms is located in Milton Keynes and is a superior Premium Country Pub decorated in heritage colours to sit within the leafy setting.

The entrance doors are flushed with bespoke hardware in antiqued brass finish. Upon entry large floor mounted artwork dominates the space in an aesthetically pleasing way. The artwork is framed with plush curtains and stylised lighting features, creating a striking talking point. A bespoke meet and greet unit sits under a mottled inset rug within the lobby space. The unit is timber in structure finished with patterned wallpaper inserts and flushed with concealed lighting to emphasise attention to detail and the brand’s premium edge feel.
A whiskey cabinet acts a divider of space and is created from the same dark timbers, brass metal inserts, metal effect wallpaper and a warming tangerine glow. The bar area is enriched with toasty features such as a fireplace clad in handblown ceramic tiles laid in a vertical brick bond style.
The bar is finished in a bespoke concaved tile, subtle colour variation was chosen to add depth and ooze quality; brass and timber panelling sit above and the marble effect top sits proudly upon this, with a large downstand and a concealed flush of light. The use of different materials highlight quality and craftmanship, a trigger to the design concept elements. Plush velvet seating with ruched detailing surround the dominant bar in a variation of heights creating a comfortable drinking and dining environment.
A light and airy restaurant is created within the pub. Existing timber trusses are dressed in trailing planting and the colour choices are reflective of a garden room environment. Large brass fittings sit proud within the open ceiling spaces, whilst table lamps create the intimate dining setting on an evening. Bespoke credenzas match the detail to the meet and greet unit and break up the vast restaurant space. Fixed seating is created in front of this with a fluted and studded detail, the use of straight run fixed seating retains flexibility for the operators, whilst large booths in velvet fabrics create bookable spaces for special occasions.
Artwork is bold in colour and placed thoughtfully throughout the space, including the toilet corridors; which are dressed in array of prints, frames and 3D elements. The toilets themselves are impactful with wallpapers, vanity stations and back lit illumination to mirrors.
Light levels and atmosphere are transitional from day to night and allow the environment to operate from morning to late evening. Fabrics are clashed with opposing wallpapers, whilst curtains dress windows and openings creating style, softness and sophistication throughout.
