The Wicked Lady, Wheathampstead

Designed for the Premium Country Pubs brand, the picturesque Wicked Lady pub near St Albans boasts a contemporary interior by JMDA. Classy rustic chic pervades both inside and out, providing a comfortable and casual setting that extends to the pub's sheltered outdoor eating area.

The Wicked Lady’s new look rests on the balancing of natural textures with a mixture of powdery blues and vibrant reds. Dark wood is present throughout, whilst feature wallpaper evokes darkly-veined marble and dense woodgrain, creating some eye-catching detail. The two-tiered bar’s bright marble top and cherry-red panelling adds a touch of drama to the space, and the reflective, warmly-lit bottle shelves help to make the area feel larger in spite of its low ceiling. Though the Wicked Lady’s dining area is large enough to comfortably sit a large number of patrons, the outdoor area can double this space, with attractive wood-panelled booths, elegant seat cushions, and a transparent shelter for outdoor dining even if the weather’s unfavourable. Fashionable, versatile, and most importantly welcoming, the Wicked Lady’s interior is indeed decidely wicked: and thankfully, in the modern sense of the word!
