Chaophraya, Birmingham

Located in the prestigious Bullring extension, this prime 2 storey location was secured by Thai Leisure Group’s development team in 2011. The brief was to create one of the clients buffet style restaurants within the irregularly shaped ‘grey box’ which would be handed over for fit out upon completion of the general construction works by the development contractor.

JMDA were involved with the development team including Bullring Landlords Hammersons and their agents Workman during the construction phase, to ensure that all client services requirements were met. Space planning of the restaurant was a challenge due to its irregular shape and diminishing ceiling heights (due to the adjacent external staircase) and the number of covers required to make the premises commercially viable. The full height curtain windows, which had to be sourced by JMDA, feature hundreds of solid glass pendant lights which make the finished product a shining jewel within the Bullring development. A curved glass staircase flanked by a 7.5m high wave-form timber wall wraps around the ground floor bar, linking the two floors. Leather booth seating with laser cut white cladding form a central first floor feature with delicate sparkling dandelion pendant lights above. The 6.0m long buffet counter was formed from black Granite and is enhanced by a backlit stacked-glass frontage.  An oval Jellyfish tank, imported from California, is housed within a walnut & chrome finished wall cladding and acts as a Unique Selling Point to the generous footfall externally.
